Crefley has never been in this part of the castle before. He sits uncomfortably, but not as a result of the plump feathered cushion beneath him. He had been directed to the seat by his Lord, and dared not refuse him or look a fool by choosing another. Not that there were many better seats to be had. Lord Gilder sits in a tallback chair that, had he not seen the actual Lord’s Seat in the Great Hall below, he would have mistaken for a throne. Ser Bohemund and Ser Sigurd share a small loveseat, clearly uncomfortable by the other’s proximity. Daeron is seated by his Uncle’s right hand, as is expected of an heir, he supposes. Ser Roger chose a spot on the wide stone windowsill, and the young septon is fussing about in the center of the room.
“My Lord, this will not do! The dogs attacking the dead in your house? They must be done away with immediately! I do not see…”
Gilder holds up a hand, silencing the septon’s complaints. “If you have something to say about our dogs, take it up with the kennelmaster. I fear we have more important things to discuss, and you are here to speak to those things. Daeron, I thought you said the kennelmaster’s son and some mummer girl would be joining us?” As he speaks, Martin enters the room, bows low and mutters apologies. “Halfway there, then. Leave it to the mummer to make an entrance. Very well. Who wishes to begin?”

Ooc: I’m assuming about a 15 minute break between the beginning of this and leaving the yard. If people, say, wanted to gather something, or drop something off in their rooms, that could have happened.

"My Lord, if I may?" Ser Roger says as he stands to give with a bow.
ReplyDelete"It appears that we have Reavers instigating and leading violence by your people against your people. I have just returned from a small battle against several of these Reavers that had landed on our Norther shore. I was forced to kill our own people as they fought blindly for the Reavers. The Warrior blessed me and your garrison and we were able to bring you victory. However, with his dieing breath, a Reaver informed us that we would find that this was but a "small wave" and many more are coming."
"I had an eye witness of the event and its precursor, but it appears that the young boy had cracked under the pressure of war and Ser Rymon was forced to kill him."
"There definitely appears to be a link between the peasants walking about with the black ink on their faces, the priest of the drowned god and the Reavers on our northern shores."
With that, Ser Roger looks around at the group of people in Lord Catriati's solar and considers their dispositions.

Crefley fidgets and adjusts the cushion beneath him. He looks around the room to see who is going to speak next. In a room with a lord and other nobles it sure isn't going to be him unless he's spoken directly to first.
ReplyDeleteSer Roger gives a hard look at every individual in the room, considering their silence, unsure about their hesitation.
ReplyDeleteFeeling uneasy in silence, Roger mindlessly begins to tap his fingers on the hilt of his great sword.
"Why won't anyone speak up?" Roger thinks with a slight sense of anger.
Gilder looks at his nephew, and clears his throat. "Come boy, this is your meeting."
ReplyDeleteooc: Now for attempt number 2. Apologies for response delay.

"Thank you, Uncle. You summoned all of us here to get to resolve a few seemingly mysterious events that have been happening along our shores. First and second were the missing Ironborn ship and the Drowned priest; thanks to the work of Sers Malcolm and Roger we know that these events are related, that the priest has been working to foment rebellion among the smallfolk against this house, and that the raiders from the Ironborn ship have been providing military leadership to the same smallfollk. The next mystery is the origin of the great fire upon our coast; what was burning and who set it ablaze? This mystery has not yet been resolved.
"Then we have the murder of Ser Rymon's squire. Rymon sees fit to personally blame this house, claiming lawless elements of our town killed him when a portion of the guard sent to the north. I had no knowledge of the squire's death until Rymon's violent outburst during the incident with the mule cart and the dogs in the yard, another mystery in itself.
"Finally we have Ser Roger's 'witness'. Who was he? What had he seen? And, of all the people he had seen since being remanded to Roger's custody, why attack Ser Rymon?"
Pausing for a moment, Daeron looks the faces of the others present in the room.
"Septon, as far as I'm aware, you were the closest to the cart and dogs when the initial disturbance occurred. Calmly, and with care of detail, recount what you remember. "
A thought crosses the mind of Ser Roger as he considers the young boys earlier riddle and his surprise reaction to seeing Ser Rymon. Roger is suddenly taken by a sort of madness as he draws his great sword in one hand and his long axe in the other and charges at Ser Rymon. "You are the fish!" Roger yells as he brings down both weapons upon the surprised knight's shoulders, severing a great portion of his torso, complete with neck and head from the rest of his body.
ReplyDeleteAs Roger turns away from the bloody mess, he mutters, "And you shouldn't have been sleeping with my Lord's Lady."
Ser Roger looks about the room, at the surprise and horror frozen on everyone's face, before removing himself from the Solar with a low bow to his Lord.
(j/k if this thing is ever going to start up again)

End of Chapter 1:
ReplyDeleteNow, for obvious reasons, there is little in the way of gold rewards. The big award will be 22 EXP given each player. I’m giving additional, “crap! that surprised me” bonuses to LR and Titmouse of 4 points. LR gains an additional (and transferrable - see incoming email) 1 skillpoint for his hilarious and remarkably appropriate ending to the tale. A group award of 7 glory is also granted, for battles and reknown. However, I will be taking 4 of this glory to reinforce the military for lost units and upgrade the weapons for the fleet to represent the new vessel. In addition, there is a loss of 1 population, for obvious reasons. That leaves 3 glory to invest. By gamemaster fiat, I rolled a D6 to determine which PC gets to allot the points, and it came up Crefley. Feel free to throw in ideas, I imagine he might listen to you.
